GOOD SHOW, POOR SEATING

I would have enjoyed the show, so much more if I had not sat in middle. This theater is not conducive for children actors as the seats are not on a good slant. You need to sit on the sides or balcony so you can see the children. I was very disappointed.

DATED

cast very talented. story dated, not worth your time.

DRY AND RACIST.

This musical started out extremely slow with humor that try as it might - could just never land. I found the characters completely unlikable, annoying, and loud. The racism I witnessed within this production was appalling, If the musical scene where they made the poor boy Randy dance around like a stereotypical Native American with his hand over his mouth wasn't enough - there was absolutely no diversity within the entire ensemble - except for one Asian man who later appeared to recreate the incredibly insulting Chinese dinner scene. You'd think if they took the time to add terrible jokes and songs, they could try and change the flat out offensiveness of the original 80's movie.

BORING

Trite, predictable, racist, and totally boring. Also the sound system in the Memorial Auditorium was bad. Sounded like the cast was screaming their lines and when the children actually screamed it was ear splitting. Save almost 3 hours of your life and take a walk or catch up on TV shows you missed.

WHY WAS THIS EVER MADE INTO A MUSICAL?

No stand out number. The best one liners from the movie fail to have the proper timing when done live. The kids in this show are certainly talented relative to other kids their age - but that doesn't mean they are good enough to be worth a full price ticket as part of the season. If you like the movie - watch the movie. If you don't like the movie - you aren't going to like this play. If you like paying full price to see a really well done high school musical - more power to you.
